The svärdstav (Swedish "swordstaff") is a medieval Scandinavian pole weapon comprised of a blade affixed to a long pole or shaft. It was used as an infantry weapon, intended to combine the length and reach of a spear with the cutting action of a sword; it was not as commonly used or documented as halberds, bills, or pikes. It may be a late derivative of Viking-era polearms such as the atgeir and höggspjót.
